Hjælp søges... / Help wanted ...

-----

In Museet Ribes Vikinger, a museum in Ribe, Denmark, there is a mitten, done in nålbinding, on display.
The only thing the museum knows about this mitten, is that it is found in a medieval cultural layer and nothing else and that is just not enough, for those of us who want to know more about it.

Due to the need for knowlegde, we have started a Crowd Sourcing project in cooperation with the museum.
The project is about collecting funds to having the mitten C14-dated, so that we can learn more about the precise age and anything else they can tell us about it.

We still need help and support to get this to work!.

You can read more about the Crowd Sourcing Project here: http://www.booomerang.dk/projects/stot-datering-af-den-nalebundne-vante-fra-middelalderens-ribe-2/

The text in the Crowd Sourcing page is only in english, but there is an english DIY in our Facebook page here: https://www.facebook.com/pages/St%C3%B8t-dateringen-af-den-n%C3%A5lebundne-Ribevante/130727750439694

I kan se min begyndende samling her:

I've started making small stitch samples, to compare the different stitches to each other.
I've started making samples in thin yarn, but now I've begun making some of the same stitches in thicker yarn, to compare the same stitches in different yarns.

You can see the start of my collection here:

I have 12 samples so far and the collection keeps getting bigger.
To see the stitch samples one by one, take a look a the tap named Sting prøver / Stitch Samples.

Test af garnforbrug / Test of yarn use

-------------------------------------------------------------------------

In December I asked my mother, if she would help me test how far she could knit on a pair of socks a size 42/43 (about size 9) for my father.

The yarn I had chosen was Peru Uld (Peru Wool) wich has 100 meters pr 50 grams in 1 ball of yarn.

I was almost done, making a pair of nålbound socks for my father, that I wanted to give him for Christmas, so I decided that my moms knitted ones, also should be for my father.

On the label it says, that the yarn works best with knitting needles size 5 (size 9 in the US), but my mom decided to use size 2 or 2.5 (size 0 or 2ish in the US).

In the picture below, you can see how far we got with 2 balls of yarn each.
The knitted is on top and the ones in nålbinding is at the bottom.
I also have to tell, that in addition to my leftovers from the socks, I also did a thumbprotector for my father, after he accidently got a hammar on it.
